Guidelines for drug safety

Are you considering taking MDMA or psychedelics? If so, we recommend you read up on how to avoid risk.

Psychedelics and MDMA are in themselves not particularly dangerous. But with today's prohibition policies there is an open and unregulated market. EmmaSofia engourages everyone to practice precaution, and to study the how to use test kits to be safe. We recommend Marquis for MDMA and Ehrlich for psychedelics. You can buy them both in our webshop. Secondary tests for MDMA and LSD are recommended.

MDMA

MDMA is also called Ecstasy or Emma. It is an empathogenic(‘increases empathy’) or entactogenic (‘inner touch’). It is produced from safrole oils, which can be found in many types of plants.

MDMA often gives joy and empathy, both for yourself and for others. MDMA can also make you feel awake and energetic.

Read our chronicle in Dagbladet (in Norwegian) - Eight things we agree on when it comes to MDMA

“In three hours we came closer than we had ever been in eight years. I felt perfectly lucid, and none of us felt intoxicated. We only felt love and understanding for each other."

— Norwegian politician, NRK ytring, 24 March 2014.

What makes the use of MDMA potentially dangerous today is primarily the prohibition and the unregulated market, where MDMA is sold without any type of quality control. Other drugs can be sold as MDMA, so it is important to use a test kit. Sometimes pills can contain unexpectedly high doses of MDMA. Taking higher doses increases the health risk.

BUY MDMA TEST KIT

EmmaSofia is working toward making the basic principles of consumer protection, such as quality control, age limits and correct branding, applicable to MDMA.

TIME SPAN:

The effect starts gradually: 20-90 minutes.

Lasting: 3-5 hours.

    DOSAGE:

  • Threshold: 30 mg
  • Light dose: 40-75 mg
  • Normal dose: 75-125 mg
  • Large dose: 125-200 mg

Most will feel the effects full on with 125 mg (or 160 mg if you’re a large person). Avoid higher doses. They will only lead to more negative effects. Most experienced users prefer light dosage. Some people take high doses of MDMA to experience psychedelic effects, but this is not a good idea seeing that high doses of MDMA increase the risk significantly. If you wish to prolong the effects, take half a dose after two hours of your first dose. Avoid multiple doses. You should instead make sure you get some food and sleep.

COMMON POSITIVE EFFECTS:

  • Good mood
  • Easier to communicate
  • Enhanced sensory perception
  • Easier to open up and talk about personal issues
  • Increase in energy
  • Increase in capacity for intimacy
  • Spiritual experiences
  • MDMA often leads to deep personal and interpersonal experiences.

POSSIBLE NEGATIVE EFFECTS:

  • Overly trusting towards strangers
  • Grinding of teeth
  • Increased pulse and blood pressure
  • Blurry vision, wobbly eyes
  • Anxiety and confusion
  • Less energy and bad mood during the following days
  • High body temperature or other serious medical problems (rare)
  • Death (extremely rare)

Decreased immune system and reduced effects in some liver enzymes can last for a week after consuming. This can affect some prescription drugs. It is not proven that moderate (common) use of MDMA can cause structural or functional changes of the brain (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26746590).

There is documentation that persons who have taken MDMA hundreds of times have differences in the brain’s serotonin system, impaired memory or higher impulsivity. It is however not clear whether this is caused by higher doses of MDMA or if it was a previously existing factor leading to unusual high usage of MDMA. For instance, people with childhood trauma or people with depressions display a tendency to have impaired memory as adults.

Addiction

MDMA is probably not addictive. Most users take MDMA rarely and are capable of controlling their use. Daily use of MDMA over time is extremely rare and can be very dangerous.

DRUGS SOLD AS MDMA

Amphetamine, ketamine and other drugs are sometimes sold as MDMA. There is significantly higher risk associated with PMA and PMMA than with MDMA. These substances have a slower come-up, and this introduces the risk of users re-dosing, which in a worst-case scenario could lead to overdose and death.

advice

  • Use test kits to make sure that what you’re taking actually is MDMA.
  • Use a precise scale to measure the correct dosage. If you're not sure how much MDMA is in a pill, take half a dose first.
  • Drink water moderately. Avoid coffee and alcohol.
  • Avoid overheating. Dress in layers, so it’s easy to undress. Take breaks from dancing.
  • Regularly check to see if you and the people around you are ok.
  • Use sugar free gum to avoid damage to your teeth from grinding.
  • Take MDMA in a quiet, familiar place, with people you trust. People usually take MDMA at home or at dance parties. Avoid bars with drunk and loud people.
  • Do not mix drugs. Combining MDMA with alcohol, cannabis or other drugs can increase risk and feeling of confusion.
  • Combined with caffeine, amphetamine or other stimulants, MDMA can result in unwanted or dangerous overstimulation.
  • Combined with SSRI antidepressants the effects will decrease significantly. Combining MDMA with other antidepressants (such as MAOI) and prescription drugs can be extremely dangerous.
  • Do not take MDMA if you’re not feeling well, mentally or physically. You should not take MDMA if you suffer from high blood pressure, a heart condition, or a liver or kidney disease.
  • Do not drive a car under the influence of MDMA.
  • Show moderation in dosage and frequency. It is wise to wait at least two weeks before doing MDMA again. Some recommend waiting 1-3 months.
  • You should not take MDMA if you're feeling ill or have a fever. Don’t hesitate to seek medical attention for yourself or a friend.

PSYCHEDELIC MUSHROOMS (PSILOCYBE)

Psilocybe is a substance with both psychedelic (thought revealing) and entheogenic qualities (can induce spiritual experiences). It is found in psilocybe mushrooms and other psychedelich mushrooms.

Psilocybe changes how you feel, the way you think and how you perceive the world. Colours can be brighter, faces can look different and sounds can be perceived differently. When you close your eyes, you may see geometrical patterns and you can experience the world differently. The higher the dose the bigger the changes of the perception of reality. A low dosage usually make people laugh and feel good. You can discover and experience aspects of everyday things as interesting or significant. A higher dosage can give you intense psychedelic effects. Your thought processes can change so much that it can be difficult to remember how the “normal” world feels like. The use of psychedelics is for many a part of a genuine spiritual practice in line with meditation and yoga.

BUY TEST KIT FOR PSYCHEDELIC MUSHROOMS

EmmaSofia is working towards making the same basic principles of consumer protection, such as quality control, age limits and correct branding, applicable to psychedelic mushrooms.

TIME SPAN:

The effect starts gradually: 15-60 minutes

Lasting: 4-7 hours

DOSAGE (DRIED MUSHROOMS)

  • Micro dose: 250 mg
  • Light dose: 250 mg - 1g
  • Normal dose: 1-2,5g
  • Large dose: 2,5-5g

Fresh mushrooms weigh about 10 times more than dried mushrooms. Strength can vary between the mushrooms. Be careful and always check the dosage specifically for the type of mushrooms you have. Only take higher dose of psilocybe if you have experience in lower doses or with other psychedelic substances, such as LSD or ayahuasca (NB: Cannabis, MDMA and ketamine are not considered psychedelics).

POSSIBLE NEGATIVE EFFECTS:

  • Confusion
  • Anxiety
  • Paranoia
  • Unwanted emotions
  • Nausea
  • Headache

COMMON POSITIVE EFFECTS:

  • Good mood
  • Change of thought patterns and perception of the world, such as increased understanding of art and music.
  • Increased creativity.
  • Many say that psychedelics can be used for personal problem solving.
  • Spiritual experiences

Addiction

Psilocybe mushroom is not addictive.

FAKE MUSHROOMS OR CONFUSING THEM

  • Other mushrooms: Wild growing mushroom does not necessarily contain psilocybe and can be poisonous.
  • Chocolates: Mushrooms are sometimes mixed with chocolate or other food. These products can contain other substances. It is not possible to verify this with a test kit.

advice:

  • Be cautious. You can use test kits to check the mushrooms for psilocybe.
  • Take good care of yourself and be rested before you take mushrooms.
  • Be prepared. You can feel overwhelmed and out of control, no matter how experienced you are.
  • Take mushrooms in a quiet, familiar place, with people you trust. Most people prefer doing psilocybe in nature or at home with music in the background. Avoid bars with drunk and loud people.
  • You should have a sober friend nearby. This person can assure you that everything is fine, and help you by changing the music or the environment around you. If someone you're "trip sitting" is experiencing problems, remind them that they have eaten mushrooms and that they will feel better soon.
  • Make a plan: Decide how much you want to take and stick to it. Pick the place you want to be and wait until you're there before you take the dosage. You will appreciate having healthy food and beverages around when the experience is over.
  • Do not mix drugs. Combining psilocybe with alcohol, cannabis or other drugs can increase the feeling of confusion. Combined with SSRI antidepressants the effects of the mushrooms will decrease.
  • Listen to yourself. If you feel anxious or think the moment's wrong, you should wait doing psychedelics.
  • Do not take psilocybe if you're not feeling well - both physically and mentally.
  • For best effect, and to reduce nausea, you should eat psilocybe on an empty stomach. You will not feel hunger until the experience is over.
  • Set aside time. Your schedule should be empty. Don't be in charge of anything, and don't make plans that can disturb you.
  • Never operate a car under the influence of psilocybe. After the experience is over, you should get some sleep before driving.
  • Try a light dosage the first time you do psilocybe. That way you get a sense of how the experience can be.

LSD

Like psilocybe, LSD is also a psychedelic and entheogen. It is made from ergot fungus that grows on rye and other grains.

LSD can change how you feel, the way you think and how you perceive the world. Colours can be brighter, faces can look different and sounds can alter. When you close your eyes you can see geometric patterns, and you can feel like you're in another world. The higher the dose the bigger the changes of the perception of reality. A low dosage of LSD usually make people laugh and feel good.
You can see new aspects of ordinary day-to-day things - so they can be perceived as extraordinary and interesting. A higher dosage can give you intense psychedelic effects.

TIME SPAN:

The effect starts gradually: 20-60 minutes

Lasting: 6-10 hours

    DOSage:

  • Micro dose: 10–20 microgram
  • Light dose: 25-50 microgram
  • Normal dose: 50-150 microgram
  • High dose: 150-400 microgram

* You should only do high doses of LSD if you have experience with low doses or with other psychedelic drugs such as psilocybe mushroom, mescaline or ayahuasca (Cannabis, MDMA, Ibogaine and ketamine are not considered psychedelics).
